The shift from discipline to devotion in your morning routine
Today over on my Instagram stories, I gave you a play by play of my morning practice.
A few years ago, I had a very stringent morning routine. Some days I absolutely hated doing it. It felt like I was in spiritual boot camp and had a list of things to do that were supposed to make me feel good...but any time I missed, I just ended up feeling like sh*t and that I had "failed."
We don't need any of that around here! Am I right?
That masculine forced routine mentality kind of defeats the purpose of a morning practice which is to practice grounding yourself and your energy before you start the day and go out into the world so that you can show up as your truest, most loving, powerful, radiant version of YOU!
When I made the shift from a morning practice rooted in ritual vs. routine and devotion vs. discipline EVERYTHING shifted.
I actually looked forward to my practice everyday.
Can you feel the difference?
In module one of my three month 1:1 coaching program, TrueYou, we focus on smoothing your foundation through outward practices and inner mindset! One of the first things we do is look at your morning practice/rituals/routine.
✨Are you diving right into your phone?
✨Do you wake up with no motivation or structure?
✨Are you answering work messages in bed?
✨Are you instantly swirled in the chaos of getting yourself/the kids out the door?
We can't build on a rocky foundation.
Now I'm not saying you need to meditate for an hour every day or do yoga seven days a week. That actually does not sound fun to me at all. I like to start super small and short and build from there.
For me, this looks like a combination of lemon water and celery juice à la Medical Medium, my JPG (Joy Pride Gratitude) journal method, meditation, connecting to friends, pilates and walking.
These are the things that I do every day that I know make me feel great! Even when I don't feel great. Even when the last thing I want to do is get out of bed!
I call this the Sacred 6. Everyone has their own unique formula of practices that they know make them feel great and helps them gain clarity + raise their vibration on a daily basis!
Let's create yours!
What are the practices/rituals/habits/actions that you know make you feel good? Make a list!
✨Some examples could be:
✨Journaling
✨Meditation
✨Physical activity/movement (dance, pilates, yoga, weight lifting)
✨Nature time
✨Physical touch
✨Connecting with friends/family
Now, come up with your plan A and plan B. Because life happens. So for example, maybe your ideal meditation practice is a 15 minute visualization (plan A) but on those mornings when you just really don't want to or overslept, you compress it to one minute of mindful breathing (plan B).
You can use this worksheet to help you! I know we all love a good worksheet. 😉 I suggest printing this and keeping it somewhere you will see it every morning.
Your Sacred 6 should move with you, evolve with you and feel freeing and nourishing! I would LOVE to see your Sacred 6 and one practice you are going to implement in March!
