Summer Solstice Journal Prompts

The word solstice means “sun standing still,” and during a solstice, the sun does just that–the sun’s path comes to a stop before reversing direction. A solstice happens twice a year– in June and December. The June solstice (summer solstice) is the longest day of the year, while the December solstice (winter solstice) is the shortest day of the year.

While it marks the arrival of summer and a mid point of the year, the days will also slowly start to get shorter again. The sun has grown as far as it can in this cycle. It has reached its peak. The sun now begins its slow decent as darkness gradually begins to return. Every year, throughout the year, the sun reminds us of this incredible new cycle of expansion and growth, and of course, returning inward.

YOUR INNER FIRE

Spiritual teachings speak of the sun not only as an outer source of energy, but as an inner source of energy that's within each and every of us. We all have our own “inner sun” (which I sometimes call your inner power that we derive from connecting to our leader within or highest self).

This inner fire nourishes our hopes and dreams. It is the fierce, all knowing, powerful part of you. The part of you that does the work to bring your dreams to life. The same way that flowers could never grow without sun, you could never grow without your inner sun.

This summer solstice is the perfect time to celebrate your inner fire. We do this by making space for both the being and the doing. By slowing down on where we have been and where we want to go.

This is the perfect opportunity to get clear on your direction for the next 3-6 months so you can harness your fire and move forward with intention!

Here are some journal prompts to help you do just that! Grab your journal, set up your ritual space or just get cozy on the couch or your bed. Put on your favorite playlist and let yourself write it out!

LETTING GO

This is the perfect time to reflect on what we need to let go of in order to pave the way for new dreams and creations!

  • How have you grown over these past 6 months?

  • How have you challenged yourself?

  • What has reached completion?

  • What are you ready to let go of?

AWAKENING YOUR INNER FIRE

  • What are you really proud of?

  • What have you worked hard on that you have been able to see to fruition?

  • What/who has helped you the most? How can you express gratitude for this?

FANNING THE FLAMES

  • What do you want to do and create this summer?

  • What do you want to grow into your life?

  • What parts of you could use some extra fire to accomplish these things?

  • How can you shine your brightest light?

  • What do you need to fill yourself up with in order to shine your brightest light

  • What might you need to release in order to shine your brightest light?

KEEP IT BURNING

  • What is a word or phrase or mantra that can guide you through this season?

  • What are three next steps you could take to move forward?

  • Who is one person (at least) you can share your summer solstice vision with?
