How to create a vision board

Do you have a vision?

When I first start working with clients much of our work is focused on peeling back what I call “the blinders.” You know the kind those poor carriage horses in Central Park wear to shield their eyes from anything that oncoming or scary in their periphery?

Well we all have our own blinders. We put them up to keep us safe. To keep us from veering off course. Oftentimes, we forget they are there and we can only see what is directly in front of us. One easy way start peeling back the blinders is by creating a vision board. Remember those? A vision board is such a fun, tangible and super powerful way to send a major signal to the universe that you are open and ready to receive all that you desire. When you continue to give your attention to the things you want and you have a visualization of them, you attract those things into your life, and what once seemed like an “ideal life” can become your reality. I have seen this happen with myself, with my friends and my clients.

Want to create your own vision board? Try this!

Step 1: Connect to your vision

Create a positive space with candles, music, and energy. Connect to your vision. Meditate, daydream, journal, dance whatever you need to do to get out of your head and dream it out loud. This is also a great opportunity to get clear on what you want. You might be surprised by what comes up! Here are a few prompts.

In five years, what does my love life, family, career, hobbies, house(s), energy, health look like?

If money, time, location, logistics didn’t exist, what do I want?

If I could have three wishes what would they be?

Step 2: Ask for what you want

Go old school and cut out images, words, quotes, etc. from magazines and newspapers and glue them to a poster board. You can also go digital with a Pinterest vision board or using the website visionboard.cc. There are even some awesome apps you can use that help you track and hold on to your vision. Check those out here. Don’t worry so much about the logistics of it, just do it!

Step 3: Display it

Put your vision board up somewhere you can see it every day. If it is digital, make it the background of your phone. Set a calendar reminder to look at it every morning. Or bake a few minutes of vision board time into your daily routine. Look at what is represented there. What is showing up in your life to bring you closer to that vision? How can you align with your vision? Bring awareness each day to what is coming into your life. Sometimes, we don’t even notice that something on our vision board is making an entrance!

Step 4: Trust and be prepared to get it

Now this is the hard part. You have to trust that the universe in combination with your efforts and intention will bring you what you desire. You have to put in the work, but know that you aren’t doing it on your own.

I suggest doing a vision board at least once a year or whenever you feel like you could benefit from a little blinder free dreaming and clarity.
