What if I told you now is an optimal time to be job searching?
What if I told you that now is actually an optimal time to be job searching?
Yes, you heard me. I really believe it.
Here’s why:
1) Companies just got a shake down. Leaders had to take a hard and fast look at role fit, effectiveness, efficiency and make some tough decisions. They were likely forced to have hard conversations that were a long time coming. On the other side of this will be more thoughtful team structures and more effective leadership. Sooner than we might think.
2) People are now at the forefront. If companies didn’t see that people are their #1 priority, they do now. If they are treating their people poorly (i.e. not giving fair severance) then you didn’t want to work there anyway. Consider it a blessing in disguise.
3) People (you) are getting more clear. Many of you are likely asking yourself questions like,
“Do I really want to do this kind of work?”
“Is this work aligned with my passions, purpose and strengths?”
“Is now the time to jump ship and start [insert pipe dream here]?”
With the distraction of commutes, long lunches, excessive meetings, and social outings, some of you were probably convincing yourself:
“It’s not that bad, I’ll stay another year.”
“The perks are good! (I.e. free breakfast, gym membership, etc.)
“I love the people I work with!”
This means that YOU are now awakening to your power. On one side, this means more of you will be pursuing more aligned opportunities (yay!) and on the other side more aligned opportunities opening up (yay!). It is a win-win!
If you are currently unemployed, think that you might be soon or are questioning everything about your career, I want you to know that EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUT.
Later this week, I will share three strategies you can implement right now whether you are employed or unemployed or exploring your options to really take advantage of this time and set yourself up for SUCCESS down the road.
